Since 2004, I have worked as a freelance journalist, writer and editor covering science, health and technology. I have covered chemistry and materials science for Science News, worked in-house at both Discover and Popular Science, and served as a content developer and the research coordinator for the award-winning permanent astronomy exhibits at Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles.
I have also built carbon-based molecules in laboratories in both Germany and the United States. Most recently, for my Ph.D. at Indiana University, I assembled sugary, highly-charged spheres the size of proteins that I affectionately call my “giant balls of negative charge.”
I’m still fascinated by atoms and molecules and the role these little cogs play in almost every field of science. But I’m also happy that I’m not cooking them up myself anymore.
I live in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with my husband, two cats and a Senegal parrot.
